Hunters were early risers, light sleepers, and could go zero to a hundred in no time flat. It was the nature of the job and Dean knew it. He’d been raised as a warrior and could be out of bed with a weapon in hand at the first creak of an old floorboard.

Well, once upon a time, anyhow.

These days, he slept deeply, in boxers and a Tshirt if anything at all, and while he hadn’t lost the ability to go from zero to one hundred in the blink of an eye, he tended more towards going from zero to about forty after a good cup of coffee.

Part of it was having the bunker. The bunker was warded against anything that so much as thought about being menacing. His mattress was memory foam and his sheets were a higher thread count than anything he’d ever slept on.

But most importantly was the angel curled in his arms.

Cas may have lost his wings, but he was still Cas. He looked decades younger when he slept and unlike Dean, Cas was no morning person.

Dean smiled to himself as he stared at the man breathing deeply and evenly in his arms. All those years of Cas watching Dean, and now it was finally Dean’s turn to watch Cas.

Except, unlike Cas, Dean took a special thrill in waking him up.

He leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to the top of Cas’s messy hair.

“Good morning, sleepyhead.”

It’s after a week of Castiel sulking and generally being miserable that Dean slaps down a piece of a paper and a pen on the kitchen table in front of him.

Castiel stares uncomprehendingly at it a moment then peers up at Dean. “What’s this?”

“You think being human sucks so bad? Fine. I’m gonna show you just how awesome it is.” Dean’s voice is forcedly optimistic, and Castiel knows that it’s for his own sake and is grateful. “Write down the top 5 things you want to learn as a human, and I’ll teach you how to do them.”

“You’re not serious.”

“Yup, I am.” Dean’s eyes brighten and he grins. “Hey, I can be like your, uh, your human Yoda.”

This, Castiel thinks, cannot go well.
